Ms J worked for Debenhams Ltd (Lotus) of Freeman Street, Stafford from 1972 to 1981. She was employed as a filler and worked in the heel department. He duties involved cementing heels on to shoes. Ms J was employed in a very noisy environment, with many machines surrounding her, including buffing, scouring and spraying machinery. She advises that if she wanted to communicate with someone a few feet away, she would have to shout.

Mrs  W wins £3,000.00 for her claim for noise induced hearing loss.

Mrs W was employed by EMI Factories Ltd (formerly the Gramophone Co Ltd) of Treorchy, from 1961 to 1973 and exposed to excessive noise. During her employment with the company, she was employed as a machine operator in the coil department, where she was exposed to the noise of coiling machinery and the nearby machine shop, which housed large presses, lathes and drills, to name but a few.

Mr G wins £4,000.00 payout after working as an instrument technician for BP Chemicals International Ltd from 1972 to 1992. Mr G was employed at the power station at Baglan Bay, Port Talbot and was exposed to the noise of high pressure boilers, steam turbines, blowers and multi-stage pumps, amongst others.

Mrs W wins a payout of just over £2,000.00, for Noise Induced Hearing Loss.

Mrs W was employed by Perseverance Mills Ltd of Padiham, Burnley from 1961 to 1963 and again from 1964 to 1973. She was employed as a cotton weaver, working in the weaving sheds. Throughout her employment, she was exposed to the noise of hundreds of weaving looms, including Lancashire, Saurer and silk looms. Mrs W advises that the noise of the loom shuttles clattering all day was deafening.

Mr C wins £3000 payout after suffering Noise Induced Hearing Loss arising from his employment with Joseph Lucas Ltd from 1965 to 1971as a Design and Development Engineer.  His role involved the design and develop of transmissions for hydraulic JCBs.  The designs were placed on a test rig and analysed by being run with electric pumps however the development project was abandoned due to the failure to reduce the noise produced.
