Tinnitus Survey Seeks Answers To Hearing Loss
The British Tinnitus Association and the National Biomedical Research Unit in Hearing (NBRUH) are inviting people to take part in an online survey which will ask questions about tinnitus, a short term or permanent hearing loss condition affecting around 10 per cent of the UK adult population.
The very real problems of noise induced hearing loss challenging British armed forces serving in Afghanistan has been raised previously, yet it seems growing numbers of serviceman are still leaving the army in 2011 suffering with hearing loss caused by combat conditions.
The risk of being affected by hearing damage as a result of exceeding the permissible 8 hours exposure time to continuous 85 dBs in the workplace, was still prevalent up until the 1980s and 90s. Even today, there can still be many employers who are unaware of their responsibilities to protect their workforce from noise induced hearing loss under the Control of Noise at Work Regulations, 2006.
It’s often assumed that exposure to excessive noise levels and the risk of industrial deafness in the workplace were mostly problems of the past, which have been largely eliminated.
