Dear David,

Thank you for the query posted on our website. The Ministry of Defence owes military personnel a duty of care, to ensure they are provided with sufficient training and a suitably safe working environment. If this has not been the case, you are entitled to compensation, as you would be with any civilian employer.

If your accident or injury occurred after 1987 and you are no longer in service, we can help you. We act on a no win, no fee basis and guarantee that you will receive 100% of your damages. If you are still in service, or were injured during combat, you can still claim under the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme.

It is important to remember that normally, you will only have 3 years within which to claim, from the date of your injury or accident, so it is essential to act quickly. If you require any further information, please telephone us on freephone 0800 294 3065 and ask to speak with mel.

Kind regards
Rachel Johnston

I have just been diagnosed as having noise induced hearing loss. I have been a member of the armed forces in both in regular service an TA since 1978.
the audiologist informed me that the type of hearing loss can only be caused by exposure to loud noise.
Since leaving the regular army I have only worked in the caring profession and I have not been in an environment were I could be subject to loud noise other than training with the TA.
Wearing of ear defense was not a priority when training and the only ear defense provided was inadequate and never stayed in place. It has only been in the last ten that appropriate ear defense was issued and clear instruction on their use has been given.

From the information and diagnosed given by the audiologist would it be appropriate for me to lodge a clam with the MOD

I note you worked at Royal Ordnance for some years. We will email a questionnaire to you under a seperate email for you to complete and return to us. This will provide us with more details so we may consider whether you might be able to make a claim for noise induced hearing loss.

Thank you for your comment. Unfortunately we do not have representatives in the U.S. and do not have sufficient experience of U.S. litigation for noise induced hearing loss to make a recommendation.
