EMI Factories Ltd former employee win compensation

Mrs  W wins £3,000.00 for her claim for noise induced hearing loss.

Mrs W was employed by EMI Factories Ltd (formerly the Gramophone Co Ltd) of Treorchy, from 1961 to 1973 and exposed to excessive noise. During her employment with the company, she was employed as a machine operator in the coil department, where she was exposed to the noise of coiling machinery and the nearby machine shop, which housed large presses, lathes and drills, to name but a few.

Mrs W advises that it was so noisy there, she would have to shout to communicate with someone only a few feet away, during her working day. She advises that although the working environment was very noisy, she was never provided with hearing protection or warned of the dangers of excessive noise exposure.

As a result of Mrs W’ employment, her hearing has been damaged and this was confirmed by the Ear, Nose and Throat Expert, when WE Solicitors arranged for a medical assessment of Mrs W’ hearing condition. The expert confirmed that Mrs W is suffering from mild noise related tinnitus and mild noise induced hearing loss.

This was not a case without difficulty, as Mrs W had also experienced some noise exposure with another company, but as the period of exposure was to short to claim for, this period had to be discounted from the settlement.

WE Solicitors negotiated an out of court settlement of £3,000.00 for Mrs W with the defendant’s solicitors, a result both Mrs W and WE Solicitors were pleased with.
