Exposure to the noise of the conveyor belts and cutting machinery leads to claim

Mrs W wins £2,900.00 for her noise induced hearing loss claim.

Mrs W was employed as a packer and handbuilder, by British Vita of Forge Industrial Estate, Nantyffyllon, Maesteg. She was employed there from 1987 to 2006.

During this period, Mrs W was exposed to the noise of the conveyor belts, cutting machinery, stockinette machinery, extractor fans and fibre blowing machinery. Mrs W was never warned of the dangers of excessive noise exposure and furthermore, never provided with any hearing protection.

This was a particularly difficult case as several insurers covered the period during which Mrs W was employed. The co-ordinating insurer changed during the process of the claim and was then obstructive, when liaising with the other insurers involved.

WE Solicitors arranged a medical assessment for Mrs W, which supported a diagnosis of mild noise induced hearing loss. WE Solicitors eventually managed to negotiate a settlement of £2,900.00, without the need for the issue of court proceedings.

I would like to say thank you for the way my case was conducted and the way I was kept very well informed at all times.  I would also like to say a big thank you to Natalie Howarth for all the help and advice she gave me during my claim.

Once again, many thanks.

Mrs W
