Former Hoover worker wins settlement of £5,500

Mr A of Merthyr Tydfil, wins settlement of £5,500.00 through WE Solicitors, for noise induced hearing loss.

Mr A was exposed to excessive levels of noise, whilst working in the white goods manurfacturing industry and the electro plating industry for a period of over 15 years. Mr A worked for Hoover Ltd of Pentrebach, Merthyr Tydfil and Merthyr Electro Plating Co Ltd of Merthyr Tydfil, during his period of exposure. He was employed as a production operative, during his employment with Hoover and was exposed to the noise of the assembly lines, metal rollers, air guns, rivet guns and press machinery. At Merthyr Electro Plating Co Ltd, Mr A was employed as a line operator and was exposed to the noise of the loading of metal nuts into a metal drum and the electro plating machinery.

During Mr A’s employment, he was not provided with hearing protection until the last few years of employment with Merthyr Electro Plating. He was never provided with hearing protection, whilst working for Hoover. The hearing protection at Merthyr Electro Plating was not enforced and nor was Mr A ever made aware of the dangers that working in excessive noise gives rise to.

Mr A now suffers from mild noise induced hearing loss and mild to moderate noise related tinnitus, which was confirmed when WE Solicitors arranged a medical assessment of his hearing condition. This was presented to the defendants, as part of the evidence, to support Mr A’s claim.

WE Solicitors were able to negotiate an out of court settlement of £5,500.00 for Mr A, avoiding the need for court proceedings. Both Mr A and WE Solicitors are very pleased with the outcome.
