Former Household Textiles Fairfield Mill worker wins his claim for noise induced hearing loss
Noise induced hearing loss sufferer, Robert Livesey, wins settlement of £5,000.00 through WE Solicitors.
Robert Livesey was exposed to excessive levels of noise, whilst working in the weaving industry for a period of around 15 years. Mr Livesey worked for Wm Christy & Sons Ltd, which became Household Textiles Fairfield Mill in 1978. The site was based at Fairfield Mill of Ashton New Road, Droylsden, Manchester and was involved in the manufacture of towels.
During his period of employment, Mr Livesey was employed as a weaver and then became a warp gaiter for the last two years of his employment. During this time, he was exposed to the noise of weaving looms, which were used to weave towelled goods.
During Mr Livesey’s employment, he was not provided with hearing protection, until around the last year or two of his employment, by which time, the damage had already been done.
Mr Livesey now suffers from mild noise induced hearing loss and mild noise related tinnitus, which was confirmed when WE Solicitors arranged a medical assessment of his hearing condition. This was presented to the defendants, as part of the evidence, to support Mr Livesey’s claim.
WE Solicitors were able to negotiate an out of court settlement of £5,000.00 for Mr Livesey, avoiding the need for court proceedings. Both Mr Livesey and WE Solicitors are very pleased with the outcome.
