Noise induced hearing loss sufferer, Mrs M G Heyes, wins settlement of £2,500.00 through WE Solicitors.

Mrs Heyes was exposed to excessive levels of noise, whilst working in the light bulb manufacturing industry for a period of around 22 years. Mrs Heyes worked for Osram (GEC) Ltd of Refuge Street, Shaw, Lancashire. She was employed as a machine operator throughout and exposed to the noise of pump machines, conveyor belts, cap baker machines, testing machines, sealing-in machines, coating machines, flange machines and pinch machines.

During Mrs Heyes’ employment, she was never provided with hearing protection and nor was she ever made aware of the dangers that working in excessive noise gives rise to. Mrs Hayes now suffers from mild noise induced hearing loss and mild noise related tinnitus, which was confirmed when WE Solicitors arranged a medical assessment of her hearing condition. This was presented to the defendants, as part of the evidence, to support Mrs Heyes’ claim.

Some of Mrs Heyes’ noise exposure with other companies could not be claimed for, as some of her periods of exposure were only a few months at a time and were therefore too short to claim for and for some of the companies, which have long since dissolved, the insurers could not be traced.

Despite this, WE Solicitors were able to negotiate an out of court settlement of £2,500.05 for Mrs Heyes, avoiding the need for court proceedings. Both Mrs Heyes and WE Solicitors are very pleased with the outcome.
